A Successful Evening in Support of a Meaningful Cause

A Successful Evening in Support of a Meaningful Cause

The Rotary Club of Saint-Martin North (RCSMN) extends its sincere thanks to all attendees, partners, sponsors, and media outlets who contributed to the success of the Jazz Trio Live Charity Concert held on April 11 in Orient Bay.

Nearly one hundred guests attended this special evening, bringing together music, community, and solidarity in support of a meaningful local initiative.

A Remarkable Artistic Performance

A highlight of the evening was the live performance by the trio:

  • Christian Amour (piano)
  • Anne-France Djane (vocals)
  • Owi Mazel (saxophone)

Performing together on stage for the very first time, these three artists delivered an elegant and captivating performance, blending jazz, soul, and Caribbean influences. Through a mix of reinterpretations and improvisation, they created a genuine connection with the audience, making the evening both immersive and memorable.

Their talent and generosity on stage played a key role in the overall success of the event.

A Commitment Fulfilled

On May 7, during its official club meeting, the Rotary Club of Saint-Martin North proudly presented a donation of €5,000 to Dutty Sham, founder of the Swali’tainment association, in support of its Soup Sundays program.

For the past 10 years, this initiative has been providing weekly hot meals to the most vulnerable members of the community. This unwavering commitment is precisely what the Rotary Club aimed to support and highlight through this event.

Acknowledgements

The Rotary Club of Saint-Martin North warmly thanks:

  • the attendees for their participation and generosity,
  • sponsors and partners for their trust and support,
  • media outlets for helping amplify this initiative,
  • as well as the artists, volunteers, and club members whose involvement made this event possible.

Beyond the music, this evening demonstrated how a shared moment can generate a tangible and lasting impact for the community.

United for good.

Rotary Saint-Martin Nord x SASSI: Taking Action Against Food Insecurity

Rotary Saint-Martin Nord x SASSI: Taking Action Against Food Insecurity

Addressing Food Insecurity in Saint-Martin

Each year on June 7, World Food Safety Day brings global attention to the importance of safe and accessible food. In Saint-Martin, that mission takes on a very local and human dimension.

The Rotary Club of Saint-Martin Nord is proud to support SASSI, a grassroots organization working on the front lines to help families facing food insecurity.

From Classroom to Community Impact

SASSI was founded in 2019 by its president, Mrs. Danielle Dormoy, following a long career in education. As a teacher and later head of a specialized learning program (SEGPA) at Mont des Accords middle school, she saw firsthand how food insecurity and social challenges were affecting students and their families.

When she retired, she made a clear decision: to keep showing up for those who needed support the most.

A Partnership Built on Action

The partnership between Rotary Saint-Martin Nord and SASSI began in 2020 through community food drives. In the early days, donations were collected and sorted directly from Mrs. Dormoy’s home, with the help of a small but dedicated group of volunteers.

In 2021, the opening of the Solidarity Grocery Store in Concordia marked a turning point. The new space made it possible to welcome families with dignity, improve logistics, and expand services.

More Than Food Assistance

SASSI’s work goes far beyond distributing food and clothing. The organization takes a holistic approach, offering workshops led by professionals on topics like health, personal development, parenting, and social reintegration.

Families are referred through local social services, including public agencies, Louis-Constant Fleming Hospital, mental health services (CMP), and schools.

Today, SASSI operates with 9 active members and supports 180 adults and 121 children—and that number continues to grow.

Recognized Community Impact

In 2025, Rotary Saint-Martin Nord honored SASSI with the René Jean Duret Award, recognizing the organization’s meaningful and sustained impact on the community.

How You Can Help

Supporting SASSI is simple—and impactful.

Each year, Rotary Saint-Martin Nord organizes 3 to 4 food drives, with 100% of donations going directly to SASSI. When you contribute to these drives, you’re directly helping families in need.

You can also donate in person at the Solidarity Grocery Store:

36 rue du Spring, Concordia (look for the SASSI sign)

Hours:

  • Monday & Wednesday: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
  • Friday: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Non-perishable food items, hygiene products, and clothing are all welcome.

Through its ongoing partnership with SASSI, the Rotary Club of Saint-Martin Nord remains committed to practical, community-driven action. Because ensuring access to food isn’t just a global issue—it’s a local responsibility we all share.

Soirée caritative Boat Party 2025

Boat Party Fundraiser 2025

The Rotary Club of Saint-Martin Nord hosted its charity event, “Let’s Dance – Boat Party, Creole Chic Edition,” aboard the Explorer, in a festive, elegant, and distinctly Caribbean atmosphere. Music, Creole Chic attire, and a warm spirit of togetherness set the tone for an evening dedicated to an essential cause: the well-being of our seniors.

The Club extends its sincere thanks to everyone who purchased a ticket, to our partners, and to the Rotarians who generously gave their time and energy to make this event a true success. This collective commitment fully reflects the Rotary motto: People of Action.

A Tangible Impact: the Seniors’ Cruise on December 13

Beyond the celebration, this evening had a clear objective: to fund the Seniors’ Lagoon Cruise on December 13, 2025. Thanks to the funds raised, nearly 115 seniors were able to enjoy a cruise aboard the Explorer, offering them a much-anticipated moment of escape and shared enjoyment.

Participants were identified in collaboration with the Bethany Home retirement residence, the ALEFPA non-profit, as well as through friends of Rotary within neighborhoods across the island. This initiative provided a meaningful break filled with relaxation, smiles, and cherished memories. For many, the cruise represented far more than a simple outing—it was a moment of recognition, social connection, and shared joy.

Beyond its festive dimension, this initiative demonstrates how a Rotary event can become a powerful driver of solidarity, delivering a concrete and lasting impact in service of the community.

Le Rotary Club de Saint-Martin Nord organise sa FOIRE AUX LIVRES 2025

Book Fair 2025

On Saturday October 4th, 2025, Rotary Club of Saint-Martin Nord held its annual Book Fair on the popular market place of the Marigot waterfront. This year the fair was combined with a "Pink October” initiative, in support of breast cancer awareness and prevention.

The club’s booth was specially decorated in pink to symbolize solidarity with women affected by breast cancer. Members actively engaged with visitors, sharing awareness materials and encouraging early screening and healthy lifestyle habits.

This initiative, although held at the start of October, is directly linked to Rotary’s September theme: Basic Education and Literacy Month, as the Book Fair promotes reading, education, and knowledge sharing. Combining literacy and prevention, the event reflected Rotary’s commitment to both community education and public health.

Initially, the activity was planned in collaboration with the PMI (Maternal and Child Protection Service) of the Collectivity of Saint-Martin, reinforcing the educational dimension of prevention. Although the nurses could not attend due to unforeseen circumstances, Rotary members took lead and ensured the continuity of the project, keeping the focus on awareness and information for all participants.

The Rotary Club of Saint-Martin Nord extends its sincere thanks:

  • to all those who donated books,
  • to the dedicated volunteers,
  • and to the many visitors who joined us for this moment of reading and awareness.

The funds raised will help support the Club’s initiatives promoting education, health, and solidarity.

Change of Board 2025-26

Change of Board 2025-26

The Rotary Club of Saint-Martin Nord is preparing to celebrate one of the most symbolic moments of the Rotary year: the Change of Board Ceremony.

This gala evening, eagerly anticipated by members and friends of the club, will mark the transition between two dedicated leadership teams. It is an opportunity to honor the accomplishments of Rotary Year 2024–2025, and to welcome the incoming board, inspired by the 2025–2026 international presidential theme: “Unite for Good.”

A highlight of the evening will be the formal handover of the presidential collar from outgoing president Jean-Marie Renard to president-elect Rosalie Boirard — a meaningful symbol of continuity, trust, and renewed commitment to service.

In true Rotary spirit, the evening will blend celebration and fellowship, featuring artistic performances, honors and recognitions, and a gourmet dinner in good company.

Another key moment will be the presentation of the René-Jean Duret Award, established in 2024 to recognize the impact of a local nonprofit working in partnership with the club. This year’s honoree is the SASSI association, commended for its commitment to serving vulnerable persons in the Saint-Martin community.

A heartfelt evening rooted in unity and generosity — a true reflection of the Rotary values we proudly uphold.

Charity Wine & Cheese Night 2025

Charity Wine & Cheese Night 2025

In times of disaster, solidarity among overseas territories is essential. The Rotary Club Saint-Martin Nord is organizing its "Wine & Cheese" charity evening on February 21, 2025, at Grape Wine, Hope Estate, to support the victims of Hurricane Chido in Mayotte.

Why Support Mayotte from Saint-Martin?

Like Mayotte, Saint-Martin has faced the devastation of a major hurricane, particularly Irma in 2017. At that time, we received an incredible wave of solidarity from around the world, including from other overseas territories. Today, it’s our turn to extend a helping hand.

Mayotte has been severely impacted by Hurricane Chido, leaving families homeless and creating urgent needs for food, essential supplies, and reconstruction. Though geographically distant, we share similar experiences and values. To prove that our islands are not so far apart, last October, our club welcomed a new Rotarian from Mayotte, strengthening the ties that unite us.

A Coordinated Effort

Emergency aid is one of Rotary International’s major causes. In Mayotte, two Rotary clubs and one Rotaract club, under the coordination of District 9220, are ready to distribute funds efficiently and transparently. Learn more about how Rotarians are helping Mayotte: here.

Sip & Savor for a Cause

To make this initiative even more meaningful, join us on February 21 at 7:30 PM for a refined tasting of 3 wines and 9 cheeses, complemented by a complimentary glass of champagne and live music by local artist Essynce.

  • Tickets: $80, including entry into a raffle with three prizes to win.

All proceeds will be donated to Rotary-led emergency relief efforts in Mayotte.

For more information and to book your tickets:
Contact us at +590690531264, email us at contact@rcsmn.fr, send us a DM on Facebook, or reach out to your favorite RCSMN member. Tickets also available at Grape Wine with credit card payment.

Because we know what it takes to rebuild after a disaster, let’s come together to bring hope to Mayotte. Sip & Savor for a Cause – Because Solidarity Tastes Better Together!
